The White House
Donald Trump secured a decisive victory in the presidential election last Tuesday, winning 312 electoral votes to Vice President Kamala Harris’ 226. In the popular vote, Trump received 74,838,166 votes compared to Harris’s 71,247,178.
The House of Representatives
Republicans are expected to maintain the majority in the House with a final total of 221-223 seats. The current standing in the House of Representatives has the GOP holding 216 seats and the Democrats 209, with 12 seats having flipped so far.
Horizon on Organizing the Government
Presidential cabinet announcements have begun to take place, and we expect them to continue through January. For a timeframe reference from his prior administration, Trump announced his first pick, Reince Priebus, to serve as Chief of Staff 4 days after victory.
Timeline of Electoral College
On or before December 11th, each state’s Executive (Governor) will prepare seven Certificates of Ascertainment, which verify each state’s chosen electors and the final vote count for each candidate. One of these certificates is sent to the U.S. Archivist.
House Leadership Elections
The House Republican conference leadership elections will take place November 13th. The Republican conference, as they will likely hold the House majority, will vote internally on who will serve as Majority Leader, Majority Whip, Conference Chair, and Policy Committee Chair.
Senate Leadership Elections
Senate Republicans will hold their leadership elections November 13th. With a new majority and Mitch McConnell’s departure from leadership, Senate Republicans must fill vacancies at every level of leadership.
